Writer's Block: Say goodbye to Kansas, Dorothy

May. 15th, 2011 | 10:43 pm

If you woke up surrounded by doctors who told you that you'd been in a medical experiment since birth and that your entire life had been a dream, how do you think you'd react?
I'd say "At least you could have given me a dream that didn't resemble a freaking nightmare. WTF Doc?"

Bai Bai LJ...unless you want me to stick around.

Jun. 28th, 2009 | 12:49 am
music: "Goodbye Goodbye" -- Boingo

I'm moving to Insane Journal. However, it's not for the reasons you might think. I'm considering this because my paid account is almost up, and IJ is still free and gives you 100 slots for userpics. And if you pay $50 there you get a "permanently insane" account...at least for the time being.

LJ has been shedding developers and has moved their ops to Russia, a country that is not especially great in the free speech department. Sure, the US is not so hot in that department either, but at least it gives lip service to the ideal.

Y'know what? Here's what I want. If you feel tempted to cough up some bucks to keep my LJ account paid-up, hook me up with permanent paid status at IJ. My LJ will remain here, archived. I'll still visit and read my friends page. But as far as updates go, I'm off to IJ. It's msgeek.insanejournal.com. Almost as easy as msgeek.livejournal.com . до свидания, LJ.

Whack-pack conspiracy theory musings...

Jun. 26th, 2009 | 09:34 am

OK, so the current government of Iran has a big problem on their hands. What to do about wave after wave of protesters, particularly protesters who believe at this point that the current Supreme Leader is illegitimate and that if they die they will die genuine martyrs, with a key to Paradise?

It is widely known that long after Michael Jackson lost his massive popularity in the Western World he remained popular in South Asia, including way underground in Iran, and very openly in the Indian subcontinent. To wit:

Anyway, you are now entering the whack-pack conspiracy theory thinking zone. I do NOT believe this. This is an exercise in Dada. Keep your arms and legs inside the car at all times.

OK: the Iranian Government needs to end their protester problem. So they contact former SAVAK agents in exile in Beverly Hills. Who can they assassinate in the US to distract the Iranian public? Answer: Michael Jackson. So they deliver a delivery food order to Jackson's rented estate in Holmby Hills, liberally spiked with Digitalis, aka foxglove. It's lunch time! He can't resist the savory aroma of Chelo Kebab. He eats the food, then has a heart attack, keels over and dies.

The thought is this: the death of Michael Jackson would create a king-hell distraction to redirect the passion of the Iranian people. Instead of continuing to rise up in anger against an illegitimate regime, they would gather together and mourn the King of Pop.

Set whack pack conspiracy theory mode OFF.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled all Jacko all the time news cycle.

Jacko is dead, and the world goes positively NUTZO.

Jun. 25th, 2009 | 04:16 pm
music: "Thriller" -- Michael Jackson

Really, I'm more depressed about Sky Saxon -- someone I actually was acquainted with and with whom Richie worked with with a couple of times -- kicking off than Michael Jackson. I was also somewhat touched by the bravery of Farrah Fawcett as she fought against her cancer, and even though I felt bad about Ed McMahon's passing it felt like he had lived a long and fruitful life.

Yeah, 50 years is way too short. I'm looking at 46 next November 5th.

I am of two minds...some of my comments immediately at Facebook were perhaps a wee bit tasteless, but there is one very important thing about Jackson people aren't talking about. Jackson was accused on more than one occasion of molesting children. More than one occasion. He was never convicted. However, there is a long history of celebrities being accused of serious crimes, crimes with victims, getting away with it because they are famous. Riches don't seem to help as much, rich but obscure people don't seem to get away with crimes. But if you are famous, or if, like Robert Blake, you used to be famous, you will get a pass. This seems to be changing somewhat: OJ got convicted in Vegas for continuing to live the Thug Life, and Phil Spector is finally doing time for a lifetime of threatening to kill -- and killing -- people with guns. However, I suspect there will be other celebs who behave badly getting passes for their behavior in the future. Celebrity is the ultimate "get out of jail free" card.

I find it interesting that Twitter held without faltering during the height of the Iran crisis, but the Fail Whale made his (her?) appearance today as the news came out about Jackson.

Not horrid at all.

Jun. 20th, 2009 | 12:08 pm
mood: contemplative contemplative
music: "Claire de la Lune" -- Debussy

The big doll's not mine...it's my friend Chad's Volks Dollfie Dream, Yumiko. Yumiko is holding one of my recent acquisitions: chibi-Shokotan. They are sitting on an Edwardian-era Irish upright piano. Very Parlour looking scene. They actually need to be sitting atop a doily on top of the piano to really look Edwardian but this will have to do.

I needed to post something to this diary that was serene and cute and undisturbing. Hopefully I have succeeded. Chibi-Shokotan should look a heck of a lot better after my friend Lizz gives her a faceup.

This is also horrid. But it's horrid with added Kawaii. Rika-tan doll dimensional animation.

The game is already over for Ahmedinejad and his puppet-master.

Jun. 16th, 2009 | 02:15 pm
music: "The Eye Of The Tiger" -- Chiara Mastroantoni

They are making martyrs there, in Iran.

I'm not going to post this picture on my front page, it's too gruesome. But to understand what's going on, you need to see this. And you need to see why, in the ultimate scheme of things, the current establishment in Iran has already lost. More below the fold.
